ARTICLE: Boeing, FMA Partner To Develop Nigeria’s Aviation

The problems being experienced by the Nigerian Federal Ministry of Aviation have been well documented. Equally, the efforts of ICAO, IATA and other aviation groups to help bring this country’s civil aviation authority to global standards have been noted in the trade press. All of those interventions pale in comparison to the announcement that the Boeing Commercial Aircraft Company will do the following:

  • Establish Maintenance and Repair Organizations (MROs) in Nigeria,
  • Create a Boeing Training Hub in Nigeria,
  • Technically assess all aircraft operated by domestic airlines,
  • Advise the airlines in their fleet renewal and acquisition decisions,
  • Develop an aviation database for FMA,
  • Help develop an Integrated Air Navigation System, Optimization System Support for Airports and Airlines, and
  • Evaluate existing Spare-parts and Material in Nigeria.

That’s an impressive “To Do” list and indicates that the Nigerian government is serious about getting its Aviation House (Hangar?) in order.
