Count on General Aviation to bring innovation and creativity to a mature industry. By most econometric measures, the aviation business, started by two Ohio entrepreneurs in 1903, should have hit the flat line of the growth cycle. This bird incorporates a variety of drag-reduction technologies and techniques as well as other new design concepts (the AOPA article details all of the aeronautical engineering pluses) to “erase the artificial limits that make airplanes expensive, uncomfortable, and unwelcome.”

Instead of Dayton, Ohio, this innovator/entrepreneur, John McGinnis, has chosen Kalispell, MT as headquarters. Additionally to launch his “bird” financially, Mr. McGinnis is trying to attract donations at Synergy: A bold new future for aviation and as of May 31st , the pledges have totaled less than $100,000 from 665 backers.

Hopefully this unique design will become a reality, but as the recent Very Light Jet (VLJ) tale of up and down has shown that expectations must be restrained until there is an airplane that is fully funded and certificated. Maybe this project will come to fruition like the recent Cirrus financing (http://jdasolutions.aero/blog/?p=503)
