The Air Traffic Control system is composed of many, many waypoints; some are random letters and some are meant to be meaningful. The team, which redesigned the Washington National Airspace as part of the NextGen satellite Metroplex Initiative, was thoughtful in its choice of the labels.

On a downriver approach, called the FRDMM arrival, they created this string of waypoints:

· “WEEEE,”

· “WLLLL,”

· “NEVVR,”

· “FORGT” and

· “SEP11.”

The reverse approach pattern, called TRUPS arrival, they bear the follow well-chosen labels:

· “USAAY,”

· “WEEDU,”

· “SUPRT,”

· “OOURR” and

· “TRUPS.”

Other approaches use this series of waypoint names

· “STAND” and “TOGETHER,” or

· “LETZZ,”

· “RLLLL,”

· “VCTRY” and

· “HEROO.”

This is a very ingenious way to commemorate the sacrifices made on September 11 and by all of our troops.

Good job, Metroplex Initiative team.
