DJ UPDATE: Airlines, Airbus Renew Criticism Of EU CO2 Scheme
EU to China: ‘We don’t want a trade war’

The EU published its own rules on aircraft carbon emissions and ignored ICAO, which has the authority and responsibility to set such rules. In response to the EU foreign governments, airlines, manufacturers (EU—The Rest of the World Wants to go to Montreal to Establish a Valid International Carbon Emission Rule) and operators (EU’s ETS is Myopic and Parochial) have roundly criticized the EU’s ill advised initiative on economic, environmental (scientific and engineering), geopolitical and legal bases. The EU has ignored all arguments.

Today, headlines from two sources may have helped deliver a message which the EU clearly understands – money – whether the denomination is €s, $s or ¥s!

China tells Airbus “we’re going to cancel orders for your planes”; Airbus instructs the EU “you’re arrogant”, i.e. wrong; and the EU listens.

Perhaps the oldest international principal of law has been reaffirmed—he, who has the Gold, RULES!!!
