Safety Management System (SMS) Training
Safety Management System (SMS) is a proactive management system that improves levels of operational safety well beyond regulatory minimums by treating safety as a core business enterprise. SMS is now required by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for all safety service providers and will soon be an FAA regulatory requirement for Part 139 Airports and Part 121 air carriers.
The JDA SMS course will provide participants with a solid foundation in basic SMS concepts and support implementation of SMS within your organization. Attendees will be able to explain the theory, principles and application of SMS and will understand the ICAO requirements for implementation.
The course consists of lectures and, as appropriate, case studies and exercises. In the four-day option; we provide an SMS Development Guidebook (SDG) that students use to create their own customized SMS Manual.
An SMS is not "one size fits all." Each SMS must be tailored for each organization based on regulations, culture, processes, procedures, size and complexity. The JDA SMS principles course includes the SDG, which complies with the expectations of the ICAO 9859 Safety Management Manual Second Edition. During the course the students will customize the SDG to fit the needs of their own organization by choosing between procedures used by small, medium and large organizations, as well as optional procedures that go above and beyond ICAO expectations. The SDG contains all of the information, procedures, forms and tools needed for the students to create their own customized SMS manual and to begin their own SMS implementation immediately after completion of the course. JDA is a MITRE licensed SMS training organization.

Personnel assigned to safety and safety-related positions in an airline, an on-demand charter, an airport, repair station, International general aviation/corporate operator or any entity considering SMS.
