Director, Office of Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration
The Performance Standards and Requirements for Micro Unmanned Aerial Systems ARC was co-chaired by Earl Lawrence, Director, Office of Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration and Nancy Egan, General Counsel at 3D Robotics
Director of the Office of Unmanned Aircraft Systems Integration. The UAS Integration office is responsible for the facilitation of all regulations, policies, and procedures required to support FAA’s UAS integration efforts. The Office serves as a central point of contact for the international aviation community on UAS issues.
Manager of the FAA’s Small Airplane Directorate is responsible for 17 aircraft certification and manufacturing district offices in 21 states from Alaska to Florida. The primary functions of the Small Airplane Directorate, located in Kansas City, are to:
- Provide administrative support and resource management for the Directorate field offices;
- Develop type certification policies and regulations for small airplanes, airships, and balloons and ensure standardized application of the policies and regulations;
- Administrate type certification of small airplanes, airships, and balloons in field offices outside the Directorate; and
Monitor continued airworthiness information and process airworthiness actions for small airplanes, airships, and balloons.
- Manage budget, personnel and training for the Directorate
In this position, he managed EAA’s government affairs offices at both EAA headquarters and in Washington, D.C. He is responsible for reviewing and analyzing government policy on the federal, state, and local levels that affect recreational aviation. This work included advocacy for EAA members and private individuals who build and fly aircraft. In addition EAA aircraft operations and AirVenture Air show operations reported to him.
