With 54 of 56 planned airports now equipped with Data Comms capabilities, the FAA is close to its goal of having the rollout completed by the end of 2016. The Data Comms capabilities allow towers to send text messages to flight crews, which can cut through the sometimes dense voice radio communications between the two.

The FAA and the world’s CAAs use objective criteria to assess noise experienced around airports. The voices of individuals may be the basis for further examination of the data to see if here is any anomaly, but they do not constitute a determinative “vote.”
Data Comm will save billions, increase safety, improve accuracy of transmissions and create new efficiencies. 42 locations have it installed, with another 14 by the end of 2016.
Implementation starts within 12 days of the meeting. Thoughtful, well-crafted submissions and perseverance are more likely to get to a win/win solution.
