The aviation news of the last few weeks has not been overly positive, but AOPA has found an uplifting story (literally) about the Solar Impulse (pictured above) as it flew over the Golden Gate Bridge. This innovative aircraft has set records for solar powered flight; it operated 26 hours because it was able to accumulate enough reserve battery power to fly through nighttime hours. The Solar Impulse flew from Europe to Africa in 2012. The San Francisco flight was the first leg of a US tour that will go to Phoenix; Dallas; St. Louis, Mo., or Atlanta; Washington, D.C.; and finally New York City.
