In a most bizarre and unfortunate event, Administrator Babbitt left the FAA. So much potential with a pilot as the FAA’s head was lost to this unpleasant circumstance. The linked article is a small, yet important recapture of that lost status. The current Administrator Huerta used his plenary and healing powers to recognize the former head of ALPA as a winner of the Wright Brothers Master Pilot award. The criteria must be U.S. citizens with 50 years of experience, a clean record, and three letters of recommendation. Deputy Administrator Whitaker presented the plaque to Captain Babbitt at Sun ‘n Fun. The choice of the venue was also symbolically an outreach to the General Aviation community; the former Administrator was one of a number of recipients plus an honoree for the Charles Taylor Master Mechanic Award.
