ARTICLE: Got Weather?

Weather, or more precisely the failure to prepare for the circumstances posed by such an event, is the primary cause of fatal GA accidents. The FAA Administrator made a public announcement, while in Alaska, about #GotWX. It is a multi-faceted government and industry website designed to assure that these pilots have all of the WX information needed, know how to interpret and address the conditions presented , practice the techniques and contact the community to expand the knowledge.

The information is contained on the above-linked page. The initial display will be refreshed each month between now and December. Included are other weather related web sites, a library of articles on the subject, a compendium of FAA WX guidance and courses/quizzes for pilots. It is likely that the subsequent content will be equally educational.

In addition to the FAA, the sponsors include AOPA, Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA), American Electronics Association (AEA), Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), FAA FAASTeam, GA Joint Steering Committee, General Aviation Manufacturers Association (GAMA), Helicopter Association International (HAI), National Agricultural Aviation Association (NAAA), National Air Transportation Association (NATA), National Association of State Aviation Officials (NASAO), National Association of Flight Instructors (NAFI), National Business Aviation Association ,Soaring Society of America (SSA), Society of Aviation and Flight Educators (SAFE), University Aviation Association (UAA) and U.S. Parachute Association (USPA).

Hopefully this attractive, highly accessible campaign will contribute to improvement in GA safety.
