The history of aviation is rich. Knowing, for example, that Washington’s international airport (IAD) is named after an influential US diplomat may not add much to your enjoyment of traveling from there, but maybe the fact that Dulles International Airport is the only domestic facility developed by the FAA may help you understand why it has those humongous people movers as part of its system.
